We are a registered provider with the Orange County Department of Education and the State of California, Children's Medical Services Division for screening
in public schools.
Speech screening is done individually, with students from preschool to the second grade, with attention to each child's age level, articulation progress, expressive language skills, vocal quality, and fluency.

Scoliosis screening is performed for seventh grade girls and eighth grade boys, in accordance with screening standards set forth by the State of California.

Body Mass Index (BMI) screening uses each student's height and weight to calculate a value that determines their body proportions, based on criteria established by the U. S. Health Department.  The sudden rise in childhood weight problems has made this screening more and more popular with our elementary school customers.

For all testing, any children who may need to be seen for follow-up are referred to the family's current health care provider.  We do not make self-referrals or provide after care of any kind.
What we do

SCSS has been providing efficient, accurate, and inexpensive educational health screening services since 1980.

Hearing testing is done in our customized, air-conditioned vans.  Our equipment is calibrated annually by a third party company, not in house. We conduct air conduction audiometry in accordance with standards established by the State of California for school screening.

Vision screening uses portable equipment from the Good-Lite Co., one of the largest suppliers of vision testing equipment for the education market in the U.S.  Children are tested for distance acuity, muscle balance, and near vision acuity, as it is appropriate to their age level.
